Empire.

That expansion led to the first English settlements in Ireland, and it allowed Henry to position

himself as overlord of the British Isles.

So we'll explore those developments, and we'll look at how terms associated with government

administration entered the English language.

it because it reveals a lot about the development of English during this period.

The exact date of the text is uncertain, but it's generally dated to the end of Henry

II's reign.

Since I want to dedicate some time to the text, I'll deal with it in some detail in the

next episode.
