The You know, I'm Kristen Bakken. And today this is like an intro to Rockin Bakhti Yoga.

It's just a little 20-minute short practice of things that I think are fundamental in the practice of Bakhti yoga.

One of the things that most typically is how people differentiate a Bhakti class from the rest is that we sing.

And so before we start the physical practice, I'd like to speak to why we sing.

When Pantanjali wrote the Yoga Sutras many, many years ago,

he wrote three words about the physical practice.

Three words in what is like an epic long poem. And those three words

have become 99% of what we do in our practice of yoga, which in my opinion, in my own

practice is a great entry to the practice of yoga. But what has become obvious to me is that our connection to our breath,

our connection to what holds the divine in it,

what is a blessing in our lives,

has really propelled me further, not only in my life, but actually in my poses.

When I start to experience the pose like it's our opportunity to connect with the divine,

I have a more profound experience in it.

And so the addition of singing in the practice generally is a calling out of the names of the Hindu deities.

Does this mean that the practice then becomes Hindu?

Absolutely not.

Absolutely not.

Could it be?

Yes.
