We're going to start with acute hand infections from Dr. Rerucha, Ewing, Oppenlander, and Cowan.

Acute hand infections can be classified into superficial or deep infections, but general wound care principles apply to both. Initial non-surgical management of superficial infections include

rest, elevation, and splint immobilization in the position

of function to prevent contracture formation.

Severe or deep hand infections often require early surgical intervention and systemic antibiotics.

Open wounds should be irrigated well with tap water or saline and abscesses should be drained.

Studies have failed to show addition of iodine or other disinfectants to be more effective than saline alone. And don't forget
