Instincts are unlearned complex behaviors that we see in organisms.

Now they're different than memories, right? Memories are the resulting emergent phenomenon from the shaping of a brain by its environment,

specifically an environmental stimulus, that's a memory. And instincts are different.

Instincts are more related to drives or impulses that get processed through an organism's cognitive capacity, right?

So, which means you kind of need to have a reasonable cognitive capacity in order to have an instinct which is different than a reflex.
