On today's episode, Dennis speaks with Dr. Trevor Wilkins A.K.A "The Angry Viking Therapist." Dr. Wilkins is a licensed professional clinical counselor in the Lexington, KY area, specializing in the symptoms related to trauma, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Trevor is a 15-year veteran of uniformed law enforcement, serving with both the Kentucky State Police and the Lexington Kentucky Police agencies. Prior to his service as a law enforcement officer, Trevor was a firefighter, emergency medical technician, and a public safety dispatcher. Trevor’s experience and commitment to serving the community in high-stress environments have allowed him to personally understand the effects of trauma on an individual’s life and mental health. Trevor is trained and experienced in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (at The Soldier Center), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (at Chicago REBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (at The Beck Institute), Family Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Systems Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and can provide psycho- education about the direct effects of trauma and depression on the body. Trevor talks about his transition from the world of law enforcement to becoming a licensed counselor and the stories and lessons learned along the way. So what I do now is I'm a licensed mental health therapist in Central Kentucky. I have an office here kind of a traditional office and what we specialize there is complex PTSD, high-risk careers, adults with childhood trauma.

So because the high-risk careers part, of course course that tracks a lot of public safety military emergency nurses

doctors people that you know just deal with high stress high risk the reason I got into that is I spent 15 years in uniform law enforcement and I'll be glad to tell the story of how that all came falling down, but I spent 15 years in uniform law enforcement. You know, at the end I was in a really bad place.
