0:40.4	Let's explore Michigan v Long, a U, a US Supreme Court case in 1983. Michigan v.
0:45.2	Long was a decision by the US Supreme Court that extended Terry V. Ohio to allow searches of
0:49.5	car compartments during a stop with reasonable suspicion. Big language there with
0:54.6	reasonable suspicion. This case also clarified and narrowed the extent of
0:59.2	adequate and independent state ground allowing US Supreme Court review of state Supreme Court decisions
1:04.4	unless they explicitly appealed to the state laws.
1:07.7	David Long was questioned by police after driving his car off a road into a shallow ditch
1:11.7	in Barry County, Michigan.
1:14.0	Officers said he acted erratically and that he appeared to be under the influence of something.
1:18.0	Noticing a hunting knife on the floor of the car, they conducted a Terry, protective pat- Terry of Ohio, but they turned up no weapons.
