And we are back. It is February. It is cold.

Toronto has experienced a rash of deep freeze, deep snow days. And this is actually a rescheduled recording because last week you were

sick.

So I'm extra super paranoid.

I'm not sick, I'm fine, fine I'm me what do you say? Why did you lock the doors when I came in? Oh did I? And if you haven't already picked up on it we are talking about John Carpenter's 1982 film The Thing and this is a film.

I don't remember the first time I saw it.

I feel like maybe late high school, early university, but this has felt like a film that has been part of my consciousness for so long.

Yeah, I remember the first time I saw it because I had a friend in Ottawa and we were like,

you know, there's a lot of horror movies that I haven't seen that I'm made into.

Let's just plow through our list and the thing was at the top of our list we hadn't seen it so we

watched it together and we were like holy shit how is everybody not talking

about this all the time and that was before I was really in the horror community per se both

online and professionally and it is talked about all the fucking time it is a

universally loved film it wasn't always the case which I'm sure we're going to get into. But I feel a special kinship with this film. It came out in January 1982. I came out in January 1982. I like to think I'm the second best thing after this film to have happened in that time.

Well, you're at least a woman.

That is something that this film does not have.

That is something that this film does not have and maybe doesn't need but we'll talk

about that too we will and I think a lot of what kind of draws people into the

film is not only the caliber of the creators behind this film like John Carpenter and also Kurt Russell
