Good morning. My audience, this is Betsy Bell, and how can this happen? Today, I have a very honored guest.

I'm with Sheriff Kevin McMayhill of Clark County, Sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Good morning, Kevin. Good morning, Betsy. Thanks for having me.

Nice to talk to you. Great to speak with you. So I have a question about the sanctuary status of the state of

Nevada. And the reason is for this question, most people don't know we are not

a sanctuary state. So the question is, how does that affect law enforcement in Clark County?

Yeah, I think sanctuary states are usually defined by those that are refusing to

cooperate with federal agencies and federal law enforcement. And most recently, it's really

come to be defined as those that are not participating with President Trump's immigration effort to remove

people in the country illegally.

Nevada, as you know, a number of years ago, there was the 287G program that while I was

the undersheriff and then sheriff now now Governor Lombardo, had implemented.

And in that case, we had ICE officers that were in our jails and deputies that were deputized by ICE to actually conduct ICE operations.

There were a number of court cases that went forward that really started to limit our ability

to do that kind of work.

And then subsequent to that, ultimately Joe removed the 287 program.
