Summary

My friend Renee Davis (married mother of two, CPA, lives in Knoxville TN) joins us to share her story. Renee starts with her remarkable conversation story into the Church about 30 years ago—with many people in her life against her decision. Renee also talks about her Patriarchal blessing helping her to better understand her future. Renee shares being kind and supportive to gay people in her life and their impact for good in society and in her life. At the end of the podcast, she shares a deeply moving song her friend Levi wrote called “Stained Glass Window”. Renee has felt like a “fringe member” and is also someone who at times is a “foyer sitter”. But as we listen to Renee’s story, I believe we are hearing from someone deeply committed to the Gospel and being like Jesus. If you feel like a “fringe member” who may not belong at Church, please listen to Renee’s story. It will help you. And if you want to do a better job of helping everyone feel welcome, needed, and have a sense of belonging in our Church, please listen to Renee’s story. Thank you, Renee, for being on the podcast. You are a remarkable woman blessing many lives! ** Please Check Out My New Book (Listen, Learn and Love: Improving Latter-day Saint Culture; link below) ** Deseret Book: https://deseretbook.com/p/listen-learn-love Amazon: amazon.com/dp/1462139566

Renee is in town in Utah where I live from East Tennessee, Knoxville. So we arranged to do this podcast in person. Renee emailed me a while

0:33.0

ago and was just grateful for my work and then shared a little bit more about her story. And I asked her

0:38.9

if she'd share her story on the podcast. So that's how this came about. And I'll give you a little

0:45.0

bit of an overview of the podcast. Renee is a convert to the church. So she'll talk about joining the

0:50.2

church and why she joined the church. She's also going to talk about why she's felt like a fringe member at times.

And I like fringe members.

1:05.1

I think we're all fringe members to some extent, but I love that Renee has found a way to better belong and be supported,

1:13.3

but it's also had some different difficult experiences. So if you sometimes feel like you're a

1:18.8

fringe member, maybe Renee's story will help you feel like there's a place for you. And if you're

1:24.2

kind of a regular member who feels like you really belong,

1:29.0

maybe what Renee shares will help you have more tools to reach out to quote fringe members

1:33.7

to help them. They feel like they belong because I think as you hear Renee's story,

1:38.5

we're better off with people like Renee as part of our congregations. They bring unique

gifts and attributes.

1:45.6

Anyway, that's a little bit about Renee.
