Welcome to the Cannabis Cultivation and Science Podcast.

I'm your host, Tad Hussey of Kiss Organics.

This podcast was a fun one for me because we got to talk about some of the challenges around

researching cannabis, how to interpret that research, a recent white paper comparing single plant

versus communal plant systems and soils, and also announced a new partnership.

My guest this week is Ben Higgins.

Ben earned his PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz,

where he studied functional ecology, organismal morphometrics, and physiology.

He is the chief research scientist at Goldleaf Gardens, where he collects data on various topics

and coordination with multiple companies representing all corners of the cannabis industry.

Ben works alongside their experienced staff to refine research and develop new methods in organic cannabis cultivation.

He lives in Olympia, Washington with his wife and two daughters and loves to explore the natural

beauty of the area with them as often as possible. Now on to the show.

Thanks, Tad. It's a pleasure to be here. Yeah, let's start off by telling listeners a little bit about you and your background and how you ended up over at Goldleaf Gardens. Sure. So just

kind of like everything else has been so far in my life, nothing's

really exactly linear. Most of my background actually comes from marine-based research. So

this all kind of started out back really in my undergrad that I did at Pitts or College. I went
