This week on One Bad Mother, let's turn on our transistor radio and talk raising trans kids with

author and advocate Kate Brooks. Welcome Kate. It is awesome to be here. Thank you for having me.

Been looking forward to it. Oh, I am so glad to have you here, and it feels like a long time coming.

I just want to let everybody know a little bit more about Kate. Obviously, like I said,

author of Transistor, a book about raising her twins and all the fun and unexpectedness that

came with that when we could just talk about twins to be perfectly honest. That's its own

personal something. She's also an award-winning TV reporter, anchor turned producer, filmmaker,

who has interviewed everyone from Beyoncé to the late Barbara Walters. That must have been

unbelievable. And she's been an activist since her teenage years. Kate has devoted countless

hours to the causes she supports, including mental health, housing justice, and anti-gun

legislation, but most recently, until she realized she completely botched the birth announcement

with her twins. I love that. She became an active LGBTQ advocate. Kate, who lives in your house,

tell me, tell me. Oh my gosh, right now, it's a beautiful thing, just my husband and I,

because both kids are at sleepboy camp. What's happening? Better than sliced bread, better than

wheel. They're away for seven weeks. Love my kids more than life, as indicated. Obviously,

normally, my husband and I would be here with our kids, Gabriela and Jacob. Right now,

they're both off, hopefully, frolicing and having fun and doing their thing at camp, because that's

what we're doing while they're at camp. How old are they right now? Are they, what are they?
