You know, what do you think might create a tipping point of sorts? What can we be doing to try to encourage it?

Part of what's going on here is that the Republicans, specifically the Trump administration, is attacking the university system and prominent individuals associated with campus protesting and universities associated with campus protesting, in part because it wants

the Democratic Party and the left to become more tied to the university graduates. It views this

as a successful strategy for it to compel the left or to compel the Democrats to defend the university system.

It is playing into the culture war by doing that.

And while, yes, it is the case that a significant number of university graduates

are mobilized by that foreign policy issue,

the effect of that is to bother and aggravate people who are in that Republican coalition.

And so they are deliberately trying to remind their base that the Democrats in the left are defenders of Harvard, are defenders of these things.

Now, that's not to say that I agree with or support any of what they're doing.

I think that the treatment of international students and protesters on university campuses is appalling,

but it's also a trap. The purpose of this trap. What does that mean?

It's a trap to get us to talk about stuff that appeals to too small a slice of the electorate ultimately.

Like the First Amendment?

Like do process rights?

This is the trouble.

You can talk about this stuff, but you're getting very far removed from something that would plausibly cut across because this is tying back into the language

to do with terrorism from the Patriot Act years. The stuff that they're using to go after

Mangione and to go after these guys is grounded in the war on terror period. And it's-

Which the right, which the Tucker Carlson right has been very critical of.

See, that's the part, Benjamin, that I feel like I'm not quite getting you to contend with.

But they can get those people to support it if it seems to be against the university system because they hate college-educated consciousness.
