Summary

It's a special family episode when we're joined by Nicole's Aunt Renee! Renee Kasman came out nearly 45 years ago, and some of the incredible highlights from her story include being a queer woman in 1970's NYC, and taking the state of Tennessee to court with Nicole's Aunt Nina! She also shares a foolproof answer to the age-old question, "Which one of you is the man?", and we do a cringe-worthy reading from a 1958 book Renee was given as a child on the dangers of "female homosexuality." YIKES.

We are a weekly podcast where we have queer folks on from all walks of life. And they tell us the tales of how they came out to friends, family, and the world at large.

Like one of the lead characters in Dana Fickley's book, Savor the Moment. Has Savor the Moment. Free plug. Free Plag, Dana.

It's an erotic novel with the pastry chef, so there you go. It's probably not based on my life.

And when I listen to the show, I always think of things I would like to say because my

1:20.9

experience is so different than most of your guests because I'm 60 years old and I have

1:26.6

been out longer than Nicole and Lauren have been alive.

1:30.6

That's cool.

1:31.8

It's amazing.

1:32.7

We love having, yeah.

1:35.6

And I take a lot of pleasure listening to the changes and how it's a little bit easier to come out now than when I did.

1:43.7

A little. A little. I just still, I'm living in

1:47.8

Nashville, Tennessee. And for some people in places like rural Tennessee, it's still pretty hard.

1:53.4

Yeah, absolutely. It really is. Yeah. Actually, and we'll get into this later in the story. But,

so Renee is my Aunt Nina's wife. Aunt Nina is my dad's sister. I've referenced both of them on the podcast many times. So if you're a listener, you know. And yeah, Renee has been in my life as long as I've been born. Yes. Yeah, as long as I've been here, which is amazing. And in my life for nearly 30 minutes. Yes. 20, 30 minutes. And you see how amazing she is. And you guys, as we joke but not joke, are definitely the most successful couple of the whole family. So that... Yeah. Just say her. Your aunt. Your aunt is a catch. She, oh.
