Summary

Graeme Hall recently helped an owner see the part he was playing in his deteriorating relationship with his dog. The Dogfather met Ray for an episode of TV’s Dogs Behaving Very Badly; Ray felt Welsh terrier Henry only had a problem with him, not his wife. He wouldn’t let him get out of doors and would nip at his shoelaces, but Graeme wondered whether Ray was acting differently around the dog and causing these reactions... The Dogfather also hears from a listener who feels the family Labrador is scared of her, but no one else. What advice will he give to build the dog’s confidence around her? Do you have a question for The Dogfather? Send Graeme a voice note and a video of your pesky pooch to [email protected].

1:07.7

Why did you decide you needed some help?

1:10.3

Well, I decided, well I didn't actually. My wife did because at the end of the day, Tammy's at work and I'm at home because I'm retired with this dog.

1:19.1

And he wouldn't let me leave the room to do simple thing like go upstairs to have a shower.

1:23.7

And he tried to kill me. As you know, from your visit here, we got the little gate

1:28.1

out of the back garden and he wouldn't let me go out to get to the car park. And it got so

1:33.0

stressful that I said to my wife, I said, I can't do this anymore. I said, I'm going to get rid of

1:38.2

Henry. I said, I just can't do it. And Tammy said, well, if Henry goes, I go. And it was really getting stressful.

1:44.7

So just out of the blue, Tammy comes home from work and says, I've contacted dogs behaving badly and they've got back to me.

1:51.0

It is an interesting thing, I think, that dogs can get us like that.

1:55.3

And I remember when I was chatting to you, you said, you got to a point, anyway, where you called Tammy at work, I think,

one day and said, that's it, I've had enough, this dog's got to go. And I think for you,

the problem was that you were, it was a pressure cooker, wouldn't it? You were there all the time
