Years pass and still no attacker is found in the Melanie Road murder case.

For those 30 years I always thought that any man that I ever met could be the person who killed my sister.

The team takes a call.

A man has made a deathbed confession.

We had a phone call come in from a member staff at a care home.

It is that he's confessed to, like a McMillan nurse,

that he was responsible for the murder of Melanie Road. And a new witness comes forward. He says he saw Melanie Road and her attacker moments before

the murder and watched as the killer ran past into the night.

So we went to the house to house forms and they did stop just the door before his.

I was like, oh my God, one more knock.

Two women, taken on the same date, in the same city, they had the same name, Melanie.

A chilling coincidence or something darker. We've been hearing how a 17-year-old schoolgirl

Melanie Road was murdered on the morning of June 9, 1984. Detectives found a killer's trail of

blood, began a large investigation, but Leeds went cold. The murderer's identity was still a mystery.

Twelve years later, on June the 9th, 1996, a hospital clerical worker, 25-year-old Melanie Hall,

vanished from a nightclub. She was presumed dead.

Now it's 13 years further on.

And on a short November day we find ourselves on the side of a motorway, the M5, about 10 miles north of Bristol.

The highway workers are clearing the verge of litter and cutting back brambles.

They missed this section last time it was scheduled, so there's more to do than usual.
