0:00.0 | Welcome to the Living Myth Podcast with Michael, where the shifting changing world is looked at from a |
0:16.8 | mythic perspective. On this episode, Meade tells an old story of someone who follows a dream that leads to being stripped down and stuck before it unfolds a path to healing and wholeness. |
0:32.0 | Stories and dreams are about the mysteries of life, |
0:35.0 | and penetrating the mysteries requires a different kind of vision |
0:39.0 | and a different understanding |
0:41.0 | than what we use to negotiate the common world. One of my favorite stories is usually called Isaac's Dream. Part of the charm of the |
1:09.9 | story is that a common man, a simple village person named Isaac, has this big dream. |
1:19.2 | And at first, he just refuses and denies the dream as people often do in life. It's too big for him and when he mentions it to his friends they kind of laugh at him for being foolish and having such a big dream when he is just a simple common person in the same village as them. |
1:40.0 | But the dream keeps coming back and eventually he realizes he either has to follow that dream or he has to let go of something that might be his actual soul. |
1:54.8 | And so one day he just leaves the village, |
1:57.6 | the only place he's ever known. |
2:00.0 | He leaves the life he had in the village, the only life he's ever known, and he leaves all the people he's ever known. |
2:08.0 | And he goes out on the road, not knowing at all where the road is leading, |
2:13.0 | only thing he takes with him is the clothes that he has |
2:18.0 | and the dream that has been waking him up at night. |
2:22.0 | The dream itself is pretty simple. It's mostly a voice saying to him, |
2:29.2 | Isaac it's time for you to leave. It's time for you to go out in the world and follow the road that leads |
2:37.7 | to the shining city and to go to the center of that city where you will find a bridge that leads across the moat to this castle and were you to dig at the bottom of the foot of that bridge, you would find a great |
2:55.8 | treasure of gold, Isaac, it's time for you to go. |
3:01.6 | Of course, in a story often there's no sense of time and therefore no sense of the age of someone like Isaac. |
3:10.0 | He's just a dreamer, the dreamer in any of us, the dreamer trying to awaken to the dream at any stage or age of life. |
3:20.0 | The question being, do we ever leave what we know in order to enter the path and the road of what we don't know, where the only map is the map of our dreams. |
