currently facing many youth of color. Today I'm joined by our wonderful guest, Dr. Benton and Dr. Simon.

So Dr. Benton and Dr. Simon, you both have written on the increasing rates of suicide,

which are impacting black girls in the United States.

And according to a 2019 study,

the suicide rate amongst black girls increased by a striking 182% over the course of 2001 to

2017. Despite these increases in suicide amongst black girls, there remains a positive of

literature addressing this critical area. How do you think that we may begin to ameliorate this

girls. One, there have to just obviously be a recruitment of individuals that view this as important.

And for myself, I can say what prompted my perspective piece on black girls is the fact that I
