Welcome to the Scuffed Podcast. I'm Adam Bells in Minneapolis. With me is Greg Velasquez and

Des Moines. We talk about U by talking about our favorite subject, the Men's National Team

midfield, and specifically the number 10 position, the creative central attacking midfielder

that we haven't yet identified for the national team. Why Greg do we need to fill this

position? Why can't we just play the Sarakin 4-141 forever and have a six and

two-eighths that is a lone deep defensive midfielder and two box to box

midfielders running around ahead of him.

I don't know that we can necessarily rule it out long term like we'll never be able to run a

4-1-4-1 But on the evidence we've seen so far in the in the

post-Couva world the 4-144-1 for me has been something of a disaster like we've never looked comfortable in it

We've never looked like we can really build things well whereas the 4231 I think I it looks like it sort of sets us up and gives some people some clear roles that at least allows them to have some

success. So given the evidence we have, 4231 for me is like the near term the near term

formation okay yeah I can agree to the extent that we need to try a few more iterations of the 4231

before we go back to that system that has been a quote disaster.

And sort of more specifically I don't think we, the only person who I think we could really play as a lone six is Tyler Adams.

And I think that playing Tyler Adams as a lone six ends up wasting one of the most dynamic players on our team.

So I still, I think even sort of hypothetically,

we're ways off from a 4-1- 4-1 given the player pool.

Okay, so who's the 10 for these iterations of the 4-231?

We try Julian Green twice, and that's it. That's been the extent of our experimentation in the 4231 since Koova.

We're in agreement on this podcast. We don't need to go over that ground again.
