club rod on November 9th, that saw the destruction of an entire Axis convoy heading for Rommel,

the Italians figured out that they would either have to give up completely, which they

could not do, or focus on the source of their troubles, which was, of course, multi. If

they could reduce the island's port facilities, then hopefully that would go a long way in

stopping the ships or subs based there from harassing shipping coming from the Italian

mainland. And if that could be accomplished, then Rommel was well on his way to taking

over Egypt. But first things first, Malta. With this new resolve established, the Italians
