Imperial yeast has been up to some interesting things lately and they recently announced a product we are super excited about.

If you're familiar with Imperial yeast you're likely aware of their classification system.

A is for Ale as an A.07 flagship, L is for Logger is for L17 Harvest, and so on.

Well, they recently released the first strain

in their I series, which stands for Imperialis

and refers to non-GMO hybrids

or derivative yeast strains developed by Imperial yeast that have been honed to exhibit

the traits of today's brewer's most desire.

The initial offering, I-22 Capri,

is a hybrid of A38 juice and A43 Loki, two of Imperial's most popular strains for Hop Forward IPA.

Whether you're into this style or just enjoy juicier fermentation characteristics, you have got to try

at Imperial Yeast.com. When I was a kid the only beer I was familiar with were those that came in red and white-colored cans or brown bottles and they always contained a simple crisp pale logger.

It wasn't until I was in college that I learned that there were actually other styles of beer that offered drinkers a wider variety of

flavors. I turned 21 in 2002 and ended up spending a ton of time at my local brewery at the time,

which was Boundary Bay in Bellingham, Washington, who always had an IPA on tap.

Now that was a long time ago, but I recall that beer, that specific beer being quite bitter

with a decent malt character, and while I'm sure there was some light fruity hop notes,

that is not what stood out to me at the time.

It's not how I remember that beer.

Well, since then, things have changed.
