Summary

Graeme Hall helps a number of listeners who have reactive dogs. He talks through how to spot when your dog is about to ‘boil over’ by reading their body language, how to use your own body to block your lunging dog, and how to ultimately de-sensitise your dog to the dog, man, or small child they’re reacting to. Plus, is reactivity down to nature, or nurture...? Do you have a question for The Dogfather? Send Graeme a voice note and a video of your pesky pooch to [email protected].

Now for one reason or another though some dogs can be reactive, especially towards other dogs or people. So if you've already got to that stage, that's what I'm going to talk about today. Now first up, here's Bailey.

1:23.3

Hi, I'm Bailey. I have an English bull terrier called Ruby. She's lovely with us and her family.

1:30.3

She loves my parents' dog, which is a Rottweiler. However, she's a complete nightmare with other dogs.

1:38.3

She growls on the streets. She leaps at them. She just looks like a complete devil dog. And also with other people that she doesn't know, she will also grow at them. Well before lockdown, when you could have people over, she would never let anyone feel comfortable. She would constantly give them eye contact and just consistently growl. She would stop when we would say the
