I lost my stepfather this month and he had broken his hip right after

Thanksgiving, 81 years old and never recovered from the surgery so there was a

protracted period where I was going back and forth

to the hospital which is a hundred miles away and back and forth to my mother's

nursing home which is a hundred seventy five miles away I've put a lot of miles on my car and then we had the funeral and then we had the calling

hours.

But actually one of the things that I do think was pretty cool, if there's anything cool

about a family funeral is my stepfather was a jazz

musician and very well known in the area we actually had live jazz and his

calling hours no way oh that's amazing. It was so cool. We and everyone just

thought it was perfect and it made people came in and smiled. I hate calling

hours. They're such a complete downer all the time and we were able to make it a little more

appropriate for someone whose job it was to make people happy.

Yeah, I understand.

I've been to funerals where, like, when it's unexpected, it's very somber but then they're you're right it's like when there are people they've lived a long life they've lived a good life and they've helped people and such and the wake is very upbeat.

So if your stepdad did that for so many people, then good on him for doing that and and people trying to you know make

everybody feel happy the way that he would have so yeah so that was that was why I was gone for three weeks.

Believe me, I would have much rather been here talking about this patch, talking about
