So as some of you guys may know the Friday episodes of this show are recorded

earlier in the week we cobble stuff together so you guys have something to chew on

through the weekend. It's not designed to be a breaking news show and yet

there is indeed breaking news a big landmark case from the Supreme Court that

isn't Roe versus Wade.

Instead, it is a fairly landmark case involving guns.

And so before we even start this show

that was recorded earlier in the week, I'm going to give you guys a bonus interview.

Stephen Gattowski of the reload joins me now to talk about exactly what is and is not in this ruling welcome back to the show Stephen tell us about this

ruling what what what is it what was the the law that it was coming under that was coming under a consideration by the Supreme Court and what happened?

So the Supreme Court on Thursday struck down New York's restrictive gun carry law as violating the Second Amendment through the Fourteenth

Amendment is that's how they have incorporated the bill of rights to the

states is through the 14th about them. But anyway, it's found that New York's process for issuing gun carry permits was unconstitutional because that process included subjective judgments by state officials on whether or not the person applying had a quote good reason to need a permit and so effectively it created this

this the standard that where it was you get a different result depending on different

government officials looking at the same question and and in practice course, it severely limited the number of people who actually

received concealed carry permits in the state. And so there's, according to the Supreme Court, there's, according to the Supreme Court, there's six other states that have

this kind of law and they will obviously also have to rework their laws down the line in response to this.

But more importantly though than that, although that will probably affect about 25% of the country because even though it's only six states happens to be some of the largest states

New York. Most popular states. Yeah, so it isn't insignificant on its own the direct direct ruling in the case, but what's perhaps more significant

is the standard that they have now created for gun cases going forward, or I shouldn't say created more like elaborated upon.

Yeah. So, you know, Heller in 2008 was sort of the landmark ruling on the Second

Amendment from the Supreme Court that established it was an individual right to keep him bear arms.
