I'll never forget something that happened.

I was working for the Miami Herald at the time.

Back then we relied on fax machines for everything.

And I accidentally, there's a document, it's in a file somewhere, but a document came

across my fax machine early one morning a few days after the election and it wasn't intended

for the Herald.

But it was a list with cell numbers of dozens and dozens of Republican operatives from all

over the country who were descending on Tallahassee.

That kind of accidental moment has stayed with me all these 20 years as a reminder of how

the Republicans seem to have their game together faster than the Democrats did.

This promise is to be one of the closest races in American presidential history.

I'm running for president of the United States.

There's no turning back.

Now, for George W. Bush, he will be the 44th president of the United States.

As goes Florida, we'll build a nation.

Advisors say the key to a close victory remains Florida.

Tonight a lot of shower breathing, a lot of forced smiles, a lot of white knuckles.

We don't know who's going to be the next president.

Florida, Florida, Florida.
