Hello everybody, welcome to the Tuesday afternoon edition of the TBTL Summer Show Specials

0:28.8

Cars 3 Life is a highway edition. The legend of Curly's Gold, I don't know how those movies are named, here we are though, bringing you some special summer programming from the palatial deck outside of the offices of Walsh Walsh and Dormat and the Roosevelt neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, a couple weeks of special shows so that we can take some well-deserved time off and you can hear some incredible automotive related programming. It's one of the things the show is known for is our deep knowledge,

0:58.8

of the automotive industry. My name is Luke Burbank, by the way, I'm your host right over there, long-ass running co-bro of the show, Andrew Walsh. Hello, don't drive like my co-host.

1:08.8

Yeah, hey, when does it become public domain? I don't know. You can probably use that. And then right over there, our friend from the Stack of Dimes podcast, it's Mr. Camaro Kev. Hey buddy, hey friends, hey, doing these special shows is really fun. We record a bunch of them in one sitting.

1:26.8

At some point, we're not there yet, but we're going to get a little punchy, a little woozy. But then there's also the fact that we record this, we're recording this a few weeks before they're going to air. And it's so hard to not want to bring the current world into it.

1:40.8

Because like, as we sit here recording the world cup is going on, your wonderful wife is Croatian. Yeah. And Croatia is just bested. Russia. Russia in Russia. Yeah, on penalty kicks. I guess it was huge.

1:55.8

I want to talk about that right now, but of course, that's not what we're here to talk about. We're here to listen to the cars driving down Roosevelt Avenue and the planes flying ahead. Yeah, that's all on purpose. We didn't fully that, by the way, that's not studio magic. That's actually happening here on Andrew's deck.

2:10.8

Are we calling it a deck or a roof? I'm going at the roof in a little bit. I'm going to fully in the sound of a loud air conditioning unit.

2:17.8

Because I think it adds texture. I don't be kicking in a little. Is that stressing you out? Not really. I don't know. Like the one thing that is kind of I'm like, I love this is the perfect day.

2:26.8

I mean, that the weather could not be more perfect. It's cool. It's breezy. It's sunny. And I'm glad that we're out here. It was your idea to record outside. So we could at least like see cars. Like here comes a bus. Like we can't do this from a car. But at least we can see cars as they drive down Roosevelt.

2:42.8

But I don't know how it sounds. So there is part of my brain. Not a big part, but a small part of my brain that worries like, you know, tomorrow when I plug this into my computer and I'm feeling all good about it, I plug it in and it's only going to sound like.

2:53.8

And you can't hear what we're saying. How do you not know how it sounds? You're wearing headphones. Headphones that I assume I stole from NPR West because they say NPR West on them.

3:02.8

You didn't steal them but a mutual friend did. I knew it was either me or Van. I knew I knew somebody from that. I know somebody from that shady organization called me or Van would have at some point had access to those headphones.

3:16.8

Yeah. Anyway, I think it'll be fine. Okay. So we're talking about different memorable cars in our lives. And today, Andrew, you're going to tell us about this. This mini van. Now, did I hear right on yesterday's show that you paid two grand for this?

3:30.8

Yeah, it might have been 1900. Maybe it was, I can't remember exactly how it worked out. That's a lot of dough though when you're a person of 17 or 18. What year was the car?

3:39.8

1986 Dodge Caravan. What year did you buy it? This would have been in high school. I'm going to say a mid 90s, probably 94 maybe 95. So it could have been close to coming up on 10 years.

3:53.8

It was close to 10 years old. I saved a lot of money. Like I'm Catholic. So I went through like first communion. And my parents made me all, you know, I never saw any of that money. My parents always put all any gift money I got.

4:07.8

They said, this is for the mini van. You're going to buy some day. Some day you're going to be a 17 year old hippie-ish kid. And you're going to want to buy a Volkswagen mini bus. And we're going to say no.

4:21.8

And then you're going to try to talk us into getting a Volkswagen van again. And then that's not going to work out. And you're going to end up with a Dodge Caravan with wooden sides with fake wooden sides. Wait, wait, wait, sorry.

4:32.8

I just did an image search because I wanted to see what we're dealing with here. Yeah. And every picture has woodpin. Oh, I loved it. I got to say, I really, I wanted a hippie van. But when it happened, it was your money.

4:45.8

Yeah, it was your love to buy the thing you wanted to buy my parents also like we're very concerned about safety things. And also they were just looking out for me because they said, listen, even if you can save up and buy a, you know, like a van again or a bus.

5:00.8

It would cost so much to get them repaired. We just find any that would have been a viable thing. And they're like, yeah, you'll end up just spending our money to get a fixed count.
