You're reading friends, it's your chopper for the week, it's me Wilmaniker,

0:29.9

joined by Matt Christman in Virgil, Texas, and I'm very happy to say our guest this week is someone who's proof that if you are a fan of our show, very, very occasionally, very rarely, but sometimes we will listen to you, and this is one that has been asked for probably more frequently than almost anything else.

0:51.7

But don't get used to it. Exactly. Don't get used to water because you will present its absence. We are of course referring to Chris Wade who requested that this person come on and no one else.

1:04.5

No, which is all my way of saying do not get used to the presence of Natalie when a K a contra points because you will resent her absence from our show. Natalie, thanks for joining us. Hi guys. Thanks for having me. I'm excited to finally go on chopper.

1:21.7

Yes, that thing we all know and love to do. Natalie, a contra points if you're not aware is a gigantic, you know, YouTube presence and star. And you primarily, you know, if you're a listener to our show or you're extremely online and even vaguely aware of politics, you cannot help but come across the sort of code words, pseudo scientific, pseudo historical and just sort of like a, you know, you know, you can't get used to it.

1:51.7

The pseudo intellectual personalities that populate the politics of the extremely online and YouTube is.

1:59.8

I guess like a primary, one of the primary delivery systems for these ideas and world views that if taken as a whole, really represent a kind of curdled and reactionary world view, it sort of channels.

2:14.3

Among and alienated and mostly male into deeply nihilistic and racist and misogynist politics.

2:23.9

And Natalie, as far as your work goes, you've become sort of a debunker or someone who takes these things at face value and genuinely responds to them in a very interesting and entertaining way.

2:38.4

So I guess I just want to ask you like, how did you get started or like interested in this world of like, you know, YouTube, pedants and racists and lunatics.

2:46.1

How did you start responding to these people?

2:49.0

Well, it started out with me just being a nobody on YouTube, just an observer.

2:54.9

And I guess everyone on YouTube is kind of the at the mercy of the great algorithm.

3:02.2

And the mysterious, this mysterious algorithm does like, if you watch one video that's even sort of about politics, the rest of your life is going to be like a recommended videos box on the YouTube homepage.

3:12.8

It's like, are you sure you wouldn't like to hear more about fascism?

3:16.0

Like, like, like, what about the white race and survival? Like, don't you want to watch a video about that?

3:21.6

And so that's how that's how I first found out about these people is literally just like YouTube made me watch it.

3:28.1

Like, they suggested it to me. So I guess a long time ago, I had watched a lot of these like debunking of creationism videos.

3:36.5

And I think that's how I initially got plugged into this network of people who, in a few years, you know, starting around maybe 2014, 2015, they weren't talking about creationism.

3:47.2

They're talking about like, you know, why Black Lives Matter and Anita Sarkeesian are ruining the planet.

3:53.4

And I got like, hmm, that's, I'm not sure that's quite right. So I would watch this stuff. And I decided to start responding to it because I had at the time, like, nothing else going on in my life.

4:07.2

So I decided to just throw myself on that grenade. And I turned out to be sort of good at it.
