And what was so crucial about what the Department of Homeland Security was hearing in the weeks leading up to January 6th?

They were hearing from Donald Trump about a plan to seize voting machines.

And whether or not the Department of Homeland Security had some power to declare that there was a national security issue and that these should be taken.

Of course, the Department of Homeland Security did not order the seizure of voting machines to quote unquote rerun the election.
