I'm Alex West with Andrea Subasati. And today we are here to kind of do your bidding.

We had danced around the topic that we're going to tackle today and thought about it in a few different ways but never really came to it to do it as a full episode but when we mentioned it off the cuff in our assessment episode we got a ton of interest in it so we decided to jump in and do it and see what there was that we could chew on.

That's right now to give some backstory in case you're new to the podcast what happened was we received a message

from a listener who said I understand that we have to discuss the patriarchy but shouldn't we also discuss the matriarchy and so in our assessment episode last January I responded to that with you I'd love to talk about the

matriarchy but first of all we don't live under a matriarchy which is why we talk

about the patriarchy so much but also I wasn't able to think of any films that meaningfully explored the idea and I said that in the episode and we got a bunch of fan mail back with some great suggestions of movies that explored the idea a little bit and so we decided to pick a couple and run with it.

And in that assessment episode we should say we did use that comment to talk a bit about the film

witching and bitching which Andrea saw and

reviewed we have that review on our website it's about 350 words of pure venom

I think that's the angriest review I've ever written in my life.

Well, and Andrea wanted to share her anger, so she passed the film on to me and I watched about half of it
