Summary
It's a shorter show today, though I think the content is as compelling as ever. This week's guest is Trevor Hendry, or Bear. Trevor's 2020 thru-hike presented him (and his fellow hikers) with unusual problems that he had to encounter and deal with. However, as I've found with some of this class of 2020, his experience–while not the same as previous hiking years–was equally rich as any other.

He even found himself slowing deliberately towards the end as he was relishing his adventure.
You can see more of Bear's pics on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/trevor__hendry/

There is no middle section of the show this week, but our ATC segment continues next week.
In Larry Luxenburg's "Walking the Appalachian Trail" we meet a new character and you'll hear that many of the concerns of today's hiker are reflected in these stories of 30 and 40 years ago.

| 0:33.6 | Hi guys, nice to have you all tuning in, if you know what I mean. You're listening to Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, the ultimate midlife crisis. And yep, I'm Mighty Blue, the guy who had the midlife crisis and through height in 2014 at the age of 61. And as if that wasn't enough, I went again last year at 66. This week, being Christmas week, the show will be a little shorter than usual. We've still got a guest and I'll be reading Walking the Appalachian Trail at the end, but there's no ATC middle section this week. And they must have presumed that I take a week off around this time of year and didn't schedule a session. For those of you who have been with me for some time, you know that I don't take any weeks off. |
| 1:14.2 | But as I say, this is a shorter show, but still worth your time. |

| 1:22.2 | Trevor is a member of that rather small class of 2020 through hikers, and as you're here, |
| 1:26.7 | he's a thoughtful young man with a very consider view about the trail and his experience on it. |
| 1:31.7 | The reading this week features somebody new to me, but once again, his thoughts on the trail, especially on finishing it, mirror mine in so many ways. That will be on after Trevor. |
| 1:37.8 | I may have a few more things to say than usual after the interview, but let's get on and meet |
| 1:41.4 | Trevor Hendry, Orbert. Here's Trevor. |
| 1:47.9 | So, of you, but let's get on and meet Trevor Hendry, Orbert. Here's Trevor. So Trevor Hendry, Orbea, hiked the AT this year. He wrote to me about it, and I invite him to |
| 1:53.9 | come on the show. Hi, Trevor. How are you? I'm doing all right. Yourself, Mighty Blue. I'm pretty good, |
| 1:58.9 | yeah. Now, as I answered, you were originally sectioned hike in the trail in 2016 and 2017. |
| 2:04.6 | Did you do the whole thing in two long-hour section hikes and to complete it, or were you |
| 2:09.6 | doing smaller sections with the intention of doing it over a number of years? |
| 2:13.6 | So I actually did two smaller sections, one in 2016 and the other in 2017. |
| 2:21.6 | I had some exposure to the trail from YouTube online, and it's something that really piqued |
| 2:27.3 | my curiosity. |
| 2:28.2 | So I decided in 2016 to give it a go. |
| 2:31.5 | I started from Springer, and I hiked all the way to Franklin. And then in 2017, |
| 2:37.7 | I picked up from Fontana Dam and I hiked through Hot Springs. And this past year 2020 is when I did |
| 2:45.4 | my end-to-end through hike. Yeah. So what made you want to do the whole thing in all years 2020? Well, you know, I'm just |
