Summary
Happy Mother’s Day! 🌸🌸🌸
In this episode, Cynthia and Dr. Ken talk through some of the lies so many moms carry—especially when it comes to their teens.
They unpack that nagging thought that if a teen is struggling, it must mean mom has failed, the pressure to hold everything together, and why a child pulling away might actually be a sign things are going more right than it feels.
Today’s show is an honest conversation around the exhaustion, the comparison, and that underlying fear that one misstep could ruin everything. But more than anything, this episode is meant to be a reminder that so many moms feel these same things—and we’re all in this together!
If a little reset and reassurance is needed this Mother’s Day… this one is for you.

| 0:48.3 | It was French horn prowess. And then I suggest we started today's show with you playing the French horn, |
| 0:53.8 | which you declined that offer. But you did say you would share a French horn story. I can tell you why I won't be playing my French horn. First of all, this is why you should learn to play piano and guitar. Nobody goes, hey, break out that French horn for a solo. But, you know, I did, you know, people knew it. And I remember, I think it was one of my, I think it was my daughter-in-law, Sweener, it was like, well, we want to hear you play sometime, whatever. So I did find my French horn back here. And, and it wasn't in perfect shape, but it was kind of going. And I did a little bit of playing. Anyway, I think it was at one holiday or something I was like okay here we go and then you can picture this little semi-circle of family members people that are for me that are kind of listening and I'm starting to kind of try to crank out something and people slowly kind of one at a time drift off into the kitchen and kind of with that sad |
| 1:47.3 | kind of pained look on their face. I'm like, hang on, hang on, I got this. So, so no, I don't do that |
| 1:54.4 | anymore. That was the end of it. The French horn isn't subtle. There's no way to, like, |
| 1:59.4 | where you just kind of in the background strumming a little song. |
| 2:02.7 | The French horn comes in loud and proud. |
| 2:05.0 | And hard to sing along with it. |
| 2:06.8 | So it's not that kind of instrument. |
| 2:09.6 | Clarinet, do you play that much? |
