Sometimes it's kind of funny what just sort of pops into your head.

Do you all remember Charlie Weiss, the former head coach of Notre Dame?

Now, he'd been like Patriots offensive coordinator, became Notre Dame head coach, and like a lot of

Notre Dame figures, you know, certainly pretty proud of himself. And when he was asked one time,

and this is one of those quotes that just sort of lives on forever, maybe you know it. When he was asked one time about what he brought to Notre Dame and why he believed in his chance to be successful, something that he, by the way, was not, eventually proven not to be a success. But at the onset of his coaching career, he was sort of asked, you know, why do you think you're going to be successful? What do you

bring to the table? He said one of the most arrogant things I've ever heard. He says, I bring a

decided schematic advantage. Do you ever hear that, do you remember that quote? Do you ever heard that quote?

Do you ever heard that quote before that Charlie Wye said, I just know more about football than the coach on the other side of the field.

And I'm going to have a game plan that's just better than the other coaches I'm doing battle with.

I'm just simply smarter. Now that turned out kind of laughably not to be true,

but it's the sort of thing that people remember it. Sometimes it comes up.

It's one of those almost like the Mike Gundy. I'm a man. I'm 40. This is one of those things that

sort of had a little bit of a life like that of people were just sort of using that. It was sort of

meme before there were memes, I guess. The point is, is that if you are a coach, you would like to believe that you do have some sort of advantage that you give to your players and therefore your team that does make winning more likely.

I think about it sometimes along the lines of a value add.

You'd like to think that you add some value to the process because of your presence.

And in a roundabout way, this is one of those questions that I do believe is going to be

pretty relevant for college football moving forward, which is how much do coaches really
