Summary

Today is a special treat for fans of Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly. In the first of a mini-series of Talking Dogs celebrity specials, Graeme Hall meets Joanna Scanlan. Not only is she the much loved actor in movies including Girl With A Pearl Earring, and TV shows like The Thick of It and No Offence, she’s also the narrator of Graeme's TV show! The Dogfather hears about the problems Joanna’s having with her rescue staffie Millie. Millie likes to chew both hands and chair legs! A listener also has a similar problem with her Czech wolf dog destroying any furniture he can get his teeth around. Plus, do dogs understand what’s happening when we’re on our phones…? Do you have a question for The Dogfather? Send Graeme a voice note and a video of your pesky pooch to [email protected].

Hello and a big welcome back to this, the Talking Dogs podcast with me, Graham Hall. If you

0:15.7

knew round here, you might be wondering who I am. Well, perhaps you know me better as the

0:19.8

dog father or you've spotted me on TV's dogs behaving very badly. I'm the tall fellow in the Tweed

0:25.2

jacket, doing best to help dog owners and their naughty pups. I've got over 10 years experience

0:30.2

training dogs and I'm determined to make sure that you live as calm and a happy life with your

0:34.9

dog as possible, which is why I'll take any opportunity

0:38.8

to teach you what I've learnt over the years.

0:41.9

Now that's what I do on this podcast.

0:43.6

I share as much advice as I possibly can and sometimes I crack the odd joke along the way

0:48.8

I can't help myself, only if you're terribly lucky though.

1:01.0

Today I want to take a closer look at those sharp dogs teeth. I've done a whole episode on nuisance nipping already,

1:04.0

but what happens when those razor sharp fangs not only nip at your fingers once in a while,

1:09.0

but leave a trail of real devastation and destruction all over your home.

1:12.6

Well, I'll talk through how we might begin to tackle that a little later on.

1:17.6

First, though, I want to introduce you to someone whose voice, if you're a fan of the TV show, you might just recognize.

1:24.6

Joanna Scanlan is the voiceover narrator on dogs behaving very badly.

1:30.1

That basically means that she gets paid to watch hours of footage of me messing around

1:33.8

with cheeky dogs every day.

1:35.5

It's a hard job, but somebody's got to do it.

1:38.1

Now, I also happen to know that when she's not in a recording studio, she's probably somewhere

1:43.4

getting a little exasperated, let's say,

1:45.6

with something that her rescue staffy Millie is doing. So, hi, Joanna, welcome to Talking Dogs.
