Summary

Love Parade was meant to be a celebration of peace, love, and understanding. The German electronic music festival was known for loud techno, colorful costumes, and sexual openness. But in 2010, the enormous event at an old freight station in Duisburg, Germany, ended with 21 people dead in a crushing incident on an entrance ramp.

Hello everybody, this is Jennifer Matarise.

0:04.0

And before I get started on the podcast today, I'd just like to say a couple of things.

0:08.0

The first thing that I wanted to say is a huge thank you once again to Dawn, who suggested the subject for this particular episode.

0:15.0

Thanks a lot, Dawn.

0:16.0

And the second thing that I wanted to do is say that aside from the usual fundraising techniques that I usually talk about at the beginning of every episode,

0:25.3

today I wanted to tell you guys that I am starting a Kickstarter.

0:29.0

Think about it as a Christmas present for the podcast.

0:32.4

Basically, what I would really like to do is raise enough money to improve the podcast in several aspects. First of all,

0:39.4

I would like to replace my laptop. The laptop that I currently have is a little bit questionable.

0:45.1

My desktop is not much better. So I'm really afraid that one or both of them are going to go.

0:50.4

And it's going to be a little bit harder for me to handle posting the podcast and doing all the

0:56.6

things that I need to do to get it out there. So that's kind of the major thing that I want to do.

1:02.0

I also want to get a better recording set up. Right now I am recording on my iPhone with a clip

1:08.4

on microphone that I bought on Amazon. So I'd really like to get a halfway decent

1:13.1

microphone and, you know, some kind of sound buffering material, that sort of thing. I'd also like

1:21.9

to see about starting a website, you know, kind of getting some links up for you know the story the episode notes and and all kinds

1:31.8

of different things that you know recommendations list all kinds of different things that I would

1:36.5

really like to put on a website that I haven't been able to do up until now because it's an expense

1:41.2

that I haven't been able to afford.

1:48.9

You know, I'm hoping to put any other money that would be brought in with the Kickstarter towards paying for things like SoundCloud and research materials and that sort of thing.

1:55.3

Basically, it would all go into making this podcast just a little bit better.

1:59.5

The research stuff I can do.
