The Welcome to episode 20 of the Charles C. W. Cook podcast. Has it really been that long?

We were so young and idealistic back then in September of last year.

I've held off until now from going off on one

on this podcast about the illegal student loan order that President

Biden issued last year and that has been tied up since in the courts.

But this week brought with it oral arguments on that matter in the United States Supreme Court.

And I've thus been pushed back into writing about it.

And once I start writing about it, I could think of little else.

So that's what this podcast is going to be about too.

I believe this is one of the most important political and jurisprudential issues of our time. It is as it stands a constitutional crisis that if left unchecked

will end up doing extraordinary damage to the American legal order and to our political system,

and that will encourage every administration that follows this one

to find similar ways of getting around the core provision within our settlement, which is the separation

of powers.

As Antonin Scalia famously noted, quote,

every tin horn dictator in the world today has a bill of rights.

It isn't the bill of rights that produces freedom, it's the structure of government that prevents

anybody from seizing all the power."

End quote.

President Biden is with this order attempting to seize, if not all, at least far too much of that power.

And if he's allowed to get away with it,

terrible consequences will flow.
