This week I'm talking with Mary Ann Hit about her work with the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign and some actual good news about climate

for once.

Mary Ann Hit directs the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign, which has been recognized as one of the most successful environmental campaigns in history.

Working with partners across the nation, the campaign has blocked the construction of 200 proposed

U.S. coal plants, secured retirement of over half of existing U.S. coal plants, and helped usher

in the Clean Energy era. She is also the co-host of the

Climate Storytelling Podcast, No Place Like Home, with her friend Anna Jane Joyner, who you may recognize

from a previous episode of Ask Science Mike.

She lives in West Virginia with her family and it was a joy for me to talk with Mary Ann this

week.

It was a wonderful conversation that I think is going to leave you

feeling hopeful and optimistic and maybe even joyful about the potential for us to mitigate and reverse the impacts of human activity on our climate

in a topic that is so often full of justified doom and gloom.
