Extra, extra, read all about it now, oh baby.

Very good morning to you.

How are you? It's Wednesday morning and it's May Day. Yeah, it's the first of May

2024 and it coincides with a bit of a rise in temperature, at least locally, at least here

in the northwest of the UK. That's a welcome, welcome break. From the old cold weather we've been dealing with

up until this point, but I think I've said that already. It's good to be alive this morning.

As I said, I hope I find you well. I'm in Salford at BBG Towers, The Papers Podcast, where I look

at the front pages of the Dailies in the UK

and then looking inside at some of the more interesting stories, at least as far as I'm concerned,

the things that caught my eye as I was browsing the papers this morning.

Before we get to the front pages though, as I record this

at 6.40 a.m., New York City police have raided, have stormed Columbia University to remove

and to arrest dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters. Columbia University, of course, a renowned university in New York City.

Handcuffed protesters were filmed shouting shame on you at the police

as they were led out of the uni and taken away in buses.

About 24 hours after they took over an academic building.

So Columbia is one of a number of universities in the US that the BBC says has been gripped by protests

because students want the universities to boycott companies and individuals who have ties to Israel because of the genocide in Gaza.

Okay.

We'll come back to that in a few minutes because it's made some of the morning newspapers,

those protests in Colombia.
