0:39.4	something goes wrong, something horrible happens in the news, and you ask people what they think
0:43.2	about it, and they say, you know, technology itself is not a bad thing. Technology is just a tool.
0:50.0	It's neutral. Whether it's good or bad, that just depends on how someone's using it.
0:54.7	And our job as a people all we can do is try to incentivize the good actors of the
0:59.1	world and deter the behavior of the bad. We've all heard people say this kind of stuff before,
1:03.2	but the question is, should we really be thinking about it that way? Should we be thinking of technology
1:09.5	as this class of neutral things that can't be judged as good or bad? Or is it possible that each
1:14.9	piece of technology carries with it a type of latent morality, just given the capabilities it has
1:20.0	to affect the society it's a part of? You have to ask yourself, is TikTok a neutral piece of
1:25.8	technology our nuclear weapons neutral? Do we have the luxury anymore of thinking about technology
1:31.9	in this way? Hopefully these questions and me being awkwardly dramatic right now make a lot more
1:37.6	sense by the end of the episode, but for now, let's build a bit of a foundation for the discussion
