And I'd like to focus on history today and a period of time that's often neglected by the modern historical profession and the American public at large.

And I've mentioned on this podcast before that I believe that academic history is dead and that really the avenue forward for historians is popular history and

I think it's almost always been that way but as a professional historian by training

someone who got involved with knowing the incestuous and nepotistic syncopchophantic profession, which is really what it is.

I mean, once you get in with the people that are in the in crowd and you start publishing

books and articles with those people, then you move into your academic careers.

You know, I've actually been asked before why I'm not working at a

four-year university teaching doctoral students. Well, one of the reasons is because there's no

jobs. The other, there's several reasons. You know, the environment I work is, is good. And who wants to be around these people that Clyde Wilson is called the Snarks?

And there was actually an article, well, I'm going to save this for another episode,

but academic history is really dead. And so I think that what we need to do is focus on popular history. And one of the
