Summary

We're kicking it back to our 'Year in the Life" series to dive head first into the mercurial waters of the St. Anger era. We see our last show with our beloved Bob Rock on bass, the addition of the wonderful Robert Trujillo into the Met fam, Ramones covers, the completion, promotion and release of St. Anger, MTV:ICON, filming videos at San Quentin, the US using Metallica music to torture prisoners, live debuts of Frantic, Dirty Window, St. Anger and The Unnamed Feeling, massive European and US tours (including Summer Sanitarium pt. 2), performances at the VMA's and Top of the Pops and more typical Metallica shenanigans. Say what you will about this year but it's good to see the boys back to business as usual (minus the snare drum) and dominating the world with a new album and tour. Especially after a couple of years of uncertainty surrounding the departure of Jason Newsted and Hetfield's first stint in rehab. We also talk the Blackened Whiskey boxset, the AWMH Foundation's charitable work, learning to play guitar, what 'mastering means, and we play our Quarantine Covers of "Don't You Forget About Me" and "Out of Touch." We love you! Enjoy!

break from the Monday Metallica shows. And we're going to dive back into a few years back,

0:58.8

just a few, to 2003 a year in a life of Metallica. That's right. My family and I are going to

1:04.6

visit my parents who live in Alabama. We're going to visit them this weekend. And so that was just going to be impossible. I'm not going to be home on Monday. So it's possible that we might still do the Metallica

1:15.5

Monday commentary on Tuesday, depending on how kick-ass the show is. So we'll have to wait and see him.

In the meantime, it kind of feels good to be back in the saddle doing a more business as usual, metal up your podcast episode. I don't know if you feel that way too, Ethan.

1:28.7

Absolutely.

1:29.2

No, I'm excited to do this one for sure,

1:30.6

just to cover another year in life of the band.

1:32.9

Of course,

1:33.6

the Monday night shows have been super fun to do commentary along to

1:37.9

and kind of interact with people in the ever so fast flowing chat section,

Brazil.

1:43.3

But yeah, this does feel good to get back back to our normal modus operandi.

Right. If you're joining us for the first time, we are an All Metallica podcast,

1:51.1

and we probably do have some new folks coming because I was on a couple of different shows in

the last weeks. I want to mention them real quick. One is called The Hook Podcast.
