Today we get to speak to retired agent Garland Swichart, who served in the FBI for 33 years.

In this episode, Garland reviews a case where he went undercover during a five-year sting targeting organized crimes

influence over labor unions in the film industry.

During the investigation, cod name Dramex for drama expose, Garland

Swichart Pose as Garland Huffner, an investment consultant for wealthy individuals who wanted to produce a non-union film.

The case was later fictionalized as The Last shot, an actual Hollywood feature film starring actor

Alec Baldwin and the role of Garland Swichart, Matthew Broderick starred as the screenwriter director, unaware that the

producer was really an FBI agent and that his movie probably was never going to get made.

During the early days of Garland's White Card's FBI career,

he worked fugitives, bank robberies, and gambling cases

in Detroit, Louisville, Houston, and Cincinnati, and he supervised the

copyright squad in the Los Angeles division. He was also promoted to FBI

headquarters twice, first as the supervisor, and then later as the chief of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act unit, Foypa.

He eventually stepped down from management and was transferred back to the L.A. Division,

where he worked as a street agent on the Labor Raceering and organized crime squad until he retired.

This is such a fun interview.

It involves the mob in Boston and making movies.
