In June 2016 the chaos of Brexit reached fever pitch in the UK. One week before the referendum vote was set to take place, politician Jo Cox was savagely shot and stabbed to death outside a public library in the middle of the day. According to eyewitnesses, the assailant screamed “Britain first” as he attacked the defenceless MP. The man was soon revealed to be Thomas Mair, a dedicated neo-Nazi whose decades-long rage had seemingly been sparked into violence by Brexit.

0:16.2 | I'm Saurati. I'm Hannah. And welcome to Redhanded. Right, shall we address the |
0:23.5 | big old award-shaped elephant in the room or lack thereof? Yeah, I think I think we should. |
0:29.4 | Basically, as you guys may or may not have noticed, some of you clearly have, because lots of |
0:34.9 | you've already been voting, which is nice to see. But essentially, this is the third year that we've |
0:40.8 | entered the British podcast awards, because well, it's the third year we've been a podcast. |
0:45.2 | This year, unfortunately, we weren't even nominated for the true crime category, which |
0:51.1 | it's just sad really for us. Deviseying, like, it's so, obviously, we don't do this to win awards, |
0:58.8 | but it just makes me sad that the podcasting community has made it quite clear that they don't |
1:05.9 | like what we do, which is, it just makes me feel sad. The true crime podcast that have been nominated |
1:13.5 | three of them are BBC, I think, they're all narrated by men. I don't, that about sums it up, |
1:19.0 | really. It's so disappointing. Not to take away from the content and the work that would have |
1:24.5 | gone into those, but if that is the ethos that the British podcast awards wants to go with, |
1:29.1 | like, they're not really there to highlight the grassroots independent podcasts like us, |
1:33.4 | that's fine. It's just kind of sad. But you know what, we just don't have, and we will never have |
1:39.1 | the resources that the BBC, for example, has to be able to do these things, |
1:44.0 | they're sponsoring a lot of the categories, etc. The only resource we have is you guys. So if we're |
1:48.7 | not going to be nominated, and from now on, we're probably not even going to apply for the true |
1:53.0 | crime category. We would love it if you guys would get us back into the listeners' choice, |
1:57.2 | because the first year you put us in the top 20, we didn't even really ask you to because we |
2:01.8 | didn't think it was a possibility. Last year you put us in the top 10. It's amazing. This year, |
2:07.5 | we would love to get back into the top 10, but if you could get us into the top three, |
