Des Moines. We talk about US men's soccer. Hello and welcome to the Scuff podcast we're going to lead off by saying how much

Darryl Grove who died last week of cancer has meant to us. The co-host of the

Total Soccer show was, as we all know, probably the most comforting voice in the American soccer media

landscape he was smart quick-witted warm kind and reasonable and he really did

understand soccer he was also a, not in the sense of necessarily

lifting trophies, although I'm sure he did lift some trophies in his time, but in the

sense that he championed the work of others. He championed scuffed when it was just a newsletter and promoted our

podcast a lot. I don't think we would have gotten the traction we did without him, even though he could

have seen us as a competitor. And he championed the work of many others,

Travis Clark, Joe Lowry, Jordan Angeli, the guys at the athletic, those are the ones that come to mind right off the top of my head.

He helped others by lifting them up which is such a rare quality and a good example for us to follow.

Yeah, the outpouring of love for Darrell and Taylor and their families

and sort of how consistent the theme of the responses were.

That hello would welcome being sort of the signature opening of the show and and

Darryl really made so many people feel so welcome and it was always with love

you know it can be easy in the media game to kind of weaponize

divisiveness you know for engagement or for whatever else but that's so

obviously not what Darrell was about you know we're all going to miss

Darrell a lot and I think we'll all kind of carry that big warm
