Summary

Mealybugs are one of the most common and hard-to-treat pests you'll encounter as a houseplant grower, so it's high time we devoted a whole episode to these furry terrors! I interview entomologist Dr Raymond Cloyd to find out what they are and how to get rid of them. Plus, I answer a question about a droopy Calathea. For full show notes, visit https://www.janeperrone.com/on-the-ledge/2020/6/2/episode-143-mealybugs

Megan Markle, but as she said the other day, the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing. So I just wanted to say that

1:12.6

for all of you who are in the US, or indeed anywhere around the world, who are feeling enraged,

1:19.5

angry, sad at the fact that racism is still a part of our lives in a fundamental way, then I join you in spirit because I feel that too.

1:30.8

Because it needs to be said and shouted from the rooftops, black lives matter.

1:36.3

I've decided to give the ad revenue from this episode to a number of different causes that are

tackling racism, both in the UK and the US.

1:46.5

So far, I've given money to the Marshall Project, which is a non-profit journalism organisation,

1:52.3

which writes about criminal justice, to the Innocence Project,

1:56.3

which works to reform the US criminal justice system by helping to get wrongly convicted people

2:03.5

exonerated. I've also given a donation to the Loveland Foundation, which is a therapy fund for

2:09.3

black women and girls in the US. Thanks to listener Paula for flogging that one up and she's running a

2:14.9

raffle for a painting she's done and I'll put details of that

2:18.5

in the show notes and seeing as I'm in the UK where I'm sad to say racism is also a major issue

2:24.7

I've also given donations to the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust and the black curriculum
