Summary

Between Super Mario Odyssey, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Assassin’s Creed: Origins, it’s one of the biggest weeks for video games in a long time. What connects all three of them is that once you start a new game, they have to introduce themselves. Patrick, Danielle, and Austin use the powerfully dark introduction from Wolfenstein II, the botched introduction from Assassin’s Creed: Origins, and the trope-y introduction from Super Mario Odyssey as a launching pad for a larger discussion about each game, and what it means to design a video game's first impression.

0:00.0	So before we start the show today, I just want you all to know there are spoilers for Wolfenstein, the new Colossus, just the intro, but there are spoilers and a pretty big content warning for all kinds of Nazi behavior that is not great.

0:17.0	Wolfenstein 2, the new Colossus, is not fucking around.
0:21.0	The intro of the game establishes the tone for a game that goes in hard against Nazis and any fascist, racist, ignorant attitudes that paved the way for the movement in the first place.
0:31.5	We have flashbacks to protagonist BJ Blaskovich's troubled childhood with his Jewish mother and deeply racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, and abusive father.
0:41.0	We see Frao Engel, a sheet of the new order fame, executed beloved character in front of our eyes while berating her own daughter and officer for being fat and queer.
