| 0:00.0 | Good morning and welcome to the Increase Your Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 1,225. Today I'm going to give you four things you can do to be a more effective leader. And this is called the lead framework, L-E-A-D. And these are the principles that we teach, a lot of the coaches that we work with in professional sports, |
| 0:28.7 | it's imperative that coaches are quality communicators. They're really good at building relationships of trust. Now, as you know, if you've been listening to this podcast for a while, |
| 0:35.1 | our big thing is to give people strategies and practical exercises and |
| 0:40.9 | principles on how to become better communicators and relationship builders. And so I want to |
| 0:47.0 | introduce to you one of our key concepts is called the lead framework on how to be a more |
| 0:51.9 | effective listener. The L stands for a locking in. You want to be fully present. |
| 0:58.3 | Eliminate distractions. It's not about what comes in on your Apple Watch. It's not about your phone. |
| 1:03.0 | It's not about the external distractions. The things that you can see with your eyes are also |

| 1:19.1 | have going on, it doesn't matter that much to you. But it's important to understand that regardless of how |
| 1:24.9 | you feel about what's being discussed, you want to lock in and signal to |
| 1:29.4 | that person that you matter as a human and I'm going to lock in. I'm not going to let the internal |
| 1:34.4 | or external distractions derail me from being present. Number two is to echo what you hear. E stands |
| 1:41.2 | for echo what you hear. After the person speaks, reflect back to them what you |
| 1:45.8 | hear in your own words, saying things like, so what I'm hearing is, or it sounds like you're saying. |
| 1:53.6 | This is important because it helps you stay present and repeat back what you're hearing. Now, |
| 2:00.1 | here's the cool thing. You want to get the head |
| 2:02.5 | nod from the player. You want them to nod their head and say yes. That's exactly how I feel. |
| 2:08.0 | You're signaling to them that you have empathy or that you understand what they're saying, |
| 2:13.5 | that they are communicating effectively. Now here's the cool thing. Sometimes you will revert back to |
| 2:19.3 | or say back to them exactly what they say to you. But once they hear it out of someone else's mouth, |
