1,223. As a coach, parent, leader, or teacher, anyone in a position of influence, it's important

to understand this important principle. People will ignore what they don't care about.

You might be trying to inspire, motivate, or guide someone to be the best versions of themselves,

but if your message doesn't connect with what they care about, it won't land.

It really doesn't matter.

All of us have these mental filters and we're constantly sorting out what's relevant

and what's not.

And the quickest way to lose someone's attention is to speak about things that don't feel meaningful

to them.

So the real challenge is to ask yourself, how do I connect my message to what matters most to the person that I'm

talking to? What are they chasing? What are they afraid of? What drives them? What's their why?

When you understand their goals, fears, and motivations, then you can begin to tailor your message in a way that resonates to them.

Because when it comes to communication, there are two critical elements to receptivity.

The what, which is the content, making sure the content aligns with their values and their

desires and their goals and their dreams.

And then there's the when, the timing of your message.

Are you saying it, are you saying the right thing at the right time?

Is it before the game?

Is that the best time?

Is it after the game?

Is it a few days after performance?
