Joining us today is Pete Steinkopf, League guitarist for the New Jersey punk rock band

The Bouncing Souls.

Together we break down their fan favorite anthem, True Believers, taken from their 2001 album,

How I Spent My Summer Vacation.

I can't think of a finer example of a song which uses the same three chords for two and a half

minutes that doesn't feel stagnant or laborious. The band's use of dynamics

within the track are uplifting and powerful while staying cohesive throughout.

Pete likens this to the band not knowing what they were doing back then when it came to songwriting,

instead relying solely on what made them feel good.

He spoke about how this was one of the first times that he

and bassist Brian Kindlin branched out and wrote lyrics, something that prior

to this rested primarily on the shoulders of lead singer Greg Antonito.

While writing the song and all the way through the recording

process, this felt like just another song to Pete in the rest of the band. It

wasn't until they played it live that they realized it was something special. Their

fans were absolutely rabid for it,

as evidenced by the fact that the band has played

this song at every bouncing soul show since its release.

Pretty impressive.
