Episode 91, The Heroes Behind the Heroes,

Part 4.

Today we're posting the last episode of our series telling the amazing story of

the rescue of the audio from NASA's Mission Control Center in Houston during the Apollo

11 mission that landed the first Americans on the moon.

The earlier episodes recount the tale of Dr. John Hanson's intent to use that audio for

his academic research in communications and speech processing and how he and his team

ran into one hardware issue after another that threatened the whole project.

But as Hanson said at the end of episode 3, his team's determination to

succeed was similar to NASA's attitude when it was trying to meet President

Kennedy's goal of putting a man on the moon.

We set a goal and we may not have had all the answers at that instant when we set the goal,

but people work collaboratively together to ensure that they're going to achieve that.

So this was something that we've tried to inspire the students that were all involved

with this with that mindset.

When we left our heroes last time, they had finished digitizing 19,000 hours of audio from Apollo 11

and some other missions at the era.

But their job wasn't done, and so neither is our story. Let's jump back in and find out what happens next.
