We had a great Easter Sunday. There are certain dishes that are sacrosanct to us. They only come out on special occasions.

One is ham sauce. That sounds like the gross juice that comes out from the ham when you warm it up, but it's not.

It's like a sweet chutney without any vinegar because gross. Pineapple, maraschino cherries, and tons of Christmas spices.

That only comes out at Christmas and Easter only, but it's so good. The other is funeral potatoes.

Now you may have looked up the name for this dish online and wondered why it's called funeral potatoes. First of all, what is it?

It's like a creamy potato and cheese casserole with crushed cornflakes on top. It's a staple at our holiday meals.

Now why is it called funeral potatoes? Because in the Mormon LDS culture, it is an absolute must at the luncheon's following any funeral period.

They will have ham and funeral potatoes every time. So if you're flying in for a funeral from anywhere outside the Mormon corridor, which is like Utah, Idaho, and parts of Arizona,

first of all, I'm sorry for your loss, but second, know that you will be having funeral potatoes after the grave side service. So at least you have that to look forward to.

We don't have a lot to crow about cuisine wise here, but I would argue that funeral potatoes is the single best dish of Mormon cuisine.
