This is a case about murderous rage and anger.

Assistant State's attorney Arthur Jackman began his opening statement at the Sarasota County

Courthouse in Sarasota, Florida.

It was March 15, 2013, and the stakes were high.

If Jackman succeeded in convincing the jury of his case, then the defendant, 48-year-old

John Lee, would be facing the death penalty.

Just one year prior, the same case had ended in a mistrial during jury selection, after

a judge ruled that potential jurors had discussed the case amongst themselves.

In January 2011, after being released from jail on a domestic violence and battery charge,

John Lee was told that as a condition of his release, he was to have no contact with

his alleged victims.

His girlfriend, 39-year-old Tracy Nabregal, or their neighbor, 46-year-old Jason Salter.

But just two days later, both Tracy and Jason would be found dead in Jason's home, both

having suffered multiple stab wounds.

And within 24 hours, John Lee would be arrested and charged in their murders.

Today, more so than ever, I'm going to let the trial tell the story.

together in a home on Park Road in Venice, Florida.

Jason was their neighbor, who lived down the block on the same road.

Tracy and Jason had started spending time together, something that John didn't like.

On January 19, 2011, John was arrested for battering both Tracy and Jason.
